1.
What training do you have?
As far as my educational training goes, I am an ICEA (International Childbirth
Education Association) certified Childbirth Educator, Internationally
Board Certified Lactation Consultant, Certified Hypnobabies Instructor
and a Postpartum Doula.
2. Why did you
decide to become a doula?
When I gave birth to my daughter, Ella, in April of 2000, my life changed.
Not only was I blessed with my beautiful little girl, I also discovered
the beauty of pregnancy and childbirth. Since then I have been pursuing
my dream of working with expectant families empowering them to have a
truly satisfying birth and postpartum experience. I thoroughly enjoyed
teaching soon-to-be parents about pregnancy and childbirth, but I still
wanted some "hands-on" time too. I decided to become a Postpartum
Doula at that point. Now I feel I get a great balance, between teaching
and getting to really interact with the new family.
3. What are your
hobbies, passions, etc?
My biggest passion in life is my daughter. She is my everything. Watching
her grow has been so amazing for me. I often think that I've learned more
about life from her then she's learned from me. When I get some free time
I enjoy going to the beach, biking, and going to the movies.
4. What is your
philosophy about birth?
believe that every woman deserves to be informed about birth; from there
she needs to make the decision that's best for her. The International
Childbirth Education Associations' position statement says it the best,
"Freedom of choice, based on knowledge of alternatives".
5. Tell us a little
something about your personal life.
I was born and raised Orange County, California. For me this is the best
place to live, I really love it here. My "real life" training
includes being a Momma to my wonderful daughter and carrying twins as
a Gestational Surrogate for an amazing family in 2006. After being in
this field for years, I know that Ive found my calling. I absolutely love
what I do and I think that every family I work with can see that.
6. What are your
specialties or unique qualities?
I try to cater to the new parents needs as much as possible. I offer
in-home childbirth, breastfeeding and child care classes, allowing parents
who have busy schedules to still get the education they desire. I also
do my postpartum doula work overnights, many parents are shocked to hear
that I will come to their home any time day or night. Again, I just want
to help the new mom and dad out, and if that means coming over from 2am-10am
then that's what I will do.
