Courtney & KamrynCourtney Ellis

1. What training do you have?
In 2004 I became a Certified Educator of Infant Massage (CEIM), by the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM). It is the most comprehensive training program in the country. I am also a certified Itsy Bitsy Yoga Facilitator, which allows me to teach yoga to babies, toddlers and preschoolers. Last but certainly not least, I am a mother in training and still learning everyday! To learn more about these organizations, please visit www.infantmassageusa.org and www.itsybitsyyoga.com

2. Why did you decide to become an instructor?
Soon after having my daughter in 2004, I was looking for something to do on the side that would allow for flexibility. After experiencing the benefits of massaging my daughter everyday, I was hooked. I was so excited to share this experience with other families and show them how rewarding it can be. Since then, I have shown countless families the benefits of daily massage for their babies and watched them grow into healthy and loving children. I continued on my journey of child wellness, and became an Itsy Bitsy Yoga facilitator. This just seemed like a natural next step and has been equally as rewarding. Guiding that special time between parents/caregivers and their children is an honor and I am grateful for the experience everyday.

3. What are your hobbies, passions, etc? Courtney's Family
First and foremost, I am a mother and that is my number one passion. Other than that, I am passionate about environmental stewardship, holistic living, cooking, yoga, hiking, reading, and learning.

4. What is your philosophy about birth?
I strongly believe in the mother and child's right to experience this rite of passage together in a peaceful and loving environment. Although I'm not directly involved in the birth process, I have the privilege of working with families soon after baby arrives. This time is equally as important and is critical to the health and well being of the child.

5. Tell us a little something about your personal life.
I am a Southern California native and currently reside in Rancho Santa Margarita with my husband and daughter. We live a relatively simple life and enjoy travel whenever possible, family outings to the beach, and silly play time together. I studied Environmental Analysis and Design at University of California, Irvine and have worked as an environmental educator and green building consultant in the past.

Kamryn Kaye6. What are your specialties or unique qualities?
As far as infant massage goes, I am certified to teach unique populations such as: couples, single parents, foster parents, parents of preemie babies, families with multiples, grandparents, parents w/ adopted children, teen parents, just dads, extended families, alternative families, families w/ children with special needs, and families with infants in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit).

I think the fact that I teach infant massage and Itsy Bitsy Yoga is unique. To the best of my knowledge there are no other educators of Infant Massage certified by the IAIM here in Orange County. There are only two other Itsy Bitsy Yoga facilitators in the area and we have worked together to bring Itsy Bitsy Yoga to Orange County. Check out our class schedule at www.parents.meetup.com/463 Itsy Bitsy Yoga is designed with the well child in mind only.
