top questions to ask your doula.
1.
What do you offer to OC Doula's Customers?
I offer wisdom that has been
passed down through many different lineages of midwives. Midwifery &
Doula work is not a job to me, it is who I am, it is my passion. I trust
& have deep reverence for the pregnancy & birth process. Everything
else I offer are different modalities of things that help with the process
of pregnancy, birth and parenthood. With that being said, in addition
to be a midwife, I am a Doula, Lactation Consultant, Prenatal Yoga Instructor,
CPR Instructor and a Emergency Medical Technician who is a provider in
Neonatal Resuscitation.
This is the story that details the traumatic cesarean birth of my first daughter Dylyn and the journey of becoming a Doula, Childbirth Educator & Midwife in it's aftermath. It ends with the Home Water Birth of my son River.
3. What are
your hobbies or passions?
I love being with my family. We enjoy sailing and traveling whenever we
can when we get the chance. We have been to many different exotic locations,
and love giving our children the opportunity to learn wisdom from people
all over the world.
4. What is your
philosophy about birth?
I believe that birth is a profound rite of passage that every woman should
be able to experience with being surrounded by options, love, and support.
But all and all, I think Gerri Ryan states this best
"Deep within every woman is the ability to birth. When she has
confidence in her own abilities, the encouragement and freedom to tap
into her innate wisdom, and has the loving support of family, friends
and professionals who believe this too, she will truly have a satisfying
birth experience."
5. Tell us a little
something about your personal life.
I was born in Colorado and moved to Irvine, California when I was 11.
Me & my husband met in 7th grade & have been the best of friends
since. Our daughter Dylyn was born in December of 2002 via Cesarean after
a long medical induction & our son River was a VBAC (Vaginal Birth
After Cesarean) born in July of 2009 at our home in our backgarden. We
have two German Shorthaired Pointers, Remmy & Drake.
6.
What are your specialties or unique qualities? I offer many comfort measures including massage, deep relaxation,
counter pressure, visualization... I emphasize lots of education prenatally
and make sure that nutrition and exercise/positioning are a part of my
work with my clients before they enter labor as it can make a huge difference
in the quality of their birth.
